Every proud owner of a genuine Bretz character takes good care of their velvet sofa! With good care, our Characters will stay in top shape for up to 20 years. That’s why our Bretz care tips are important for you and your sofa!

It’s certainly happened to everyone at one time or another: a brief moment of inattention and oops, there’s the mishap. Coffee spilled, red wine dripped on the sofa or the secret snack on the beloved Bretz Character landed not only in the mouth but also on the velour cover… What usually remains is an unsightly stain.

That’s why we would like to introduce you to our Bretz care tips today. Because don’t worry: you can easily remove many stains yourself.

COFFEE, CANDLE WAX, RED WINE …

OH NO!!

ACT FAST!

It is important not to let the stains on the velour cover dry for too long. Otherwise they may no longer be removable. Stains that have already dried should never be scraped off or pulled out. Doing so will damage the velour irreparably.

Always dab off any liquids that have accidentally landed on your Bretz velour upholstery immediately with a clean cloth (do not rub). Always work from the edge to the centre so that the stain is not enlarged. Never use force! Here you will find some tips on how to care for certain types of dirt on velour:

BRETZ VELOURS CARE TIPS FOR…

FRESH STAINS OF WATER-SOLUBLE SUBSTANCE

A brief moment of inattention and it’s happened: your drink has landed on the Bretz velour cover! Coffee, wine or lemonade? As a result, you should act quickly: first dab off the liquid immediately with a damp microfibre cloth. If necessary, moisten the microfibre cloth with a solution of mild detergent. Never soak the upholstery fabric!

GREASY STAINS

Greasy spills have landed on your Bretz sofa? For example, gravy, spread or cream cake? The best thing to do is to take a white cloth and soak it with mild, 70% isopropyl alcohol. Then dab the stain carefully (do not rub). First test the stain on the corresponding fabric sample or on a less visible part of the Bretz character. Never dab over several colour areas!

EARNINGS

Food residues should be removed carefully with the back of a knife or a spoon to avoid plucking out the pile. Never try to scrape or pull out dried-on stains! Once the coarse food residues have been removed and a stain remains, you should proceed as with the impurities just mentioned (stains of water-soluble substances OR greasy stains).

CANDLE WAX

Before you start the actual cleaning, you should crumble the candle wax as much as possible and carefully lift it off. Be careful not to pull out the velour threads, as this would damage the velour surface! If necessary, carefully re-treat with benzine several times. By the way, the following applies to all our velour covers: Never work on the velour with an iron. As some of our velours have a polyester content or are woven entirely from polyester or polyacrylic, the heat of the iron may melt the velour. What remains is an irreparable fusion of the pile fibres. After removing the stain, dab the cover carefully and loosely from seam to seam with a damp microfibre cloth (clear water). Then dab (not rub) off the moisture with a dry cloth and finally brush the pile with a soft brush. Brush again when dry. That’s it!

CHEWING GUM

If chewing gum has gotten caught in the velour cover of your Bretz Character, we recommend hiring a professional!

IMPORTANT: TEST ALL AUXILIARIES FOR COMPATIBILITY FIRST IN A LESS VISIBLE PLACE (OR ON A FABRIC SAMPLE)!

Summary

  1. Slightly moisten the microfiber cloth.
  2. Dab, do not rub!
  3. Work from the outside to the inside.
  4. Always work in the direction of the pile.
  5. For stubborn soiling, contact a specialist.
