Once the parameters like thickness of the upholstery, construction and shape of the new design have been defined, the creation of a 1:1 mockup starts. Of course, while working on this prototype, even more questions arise; for instance: How are the seams supposed to look like and where to run the stitches? Is the slant of the backrest correct and, even more important, the backrest’s height? What’s the top stitching supposed to look like and so on, and on, and on…. Sometimes we also get off course and experiment a bit in regards to expression and shaping. Sometimes just with the result that we return to the original idea; sometimes, however, the coaction within the team results in getting new ideas for solving some detailed questions. Sometimes it is useful to step back and look at the design from a different angle, to rethink and consider different positions. Though this is not easy at all for the designer, it is most important during this phase of the development process.
